Ribbon Sound for Live Vocals, Wireless. RM 510

October 27, 2010

Based on more than 50 years of experience in developing and handcrafting ribbon microphones, in many respects the RM 510 is unique: A unique sound channelling technology provides the capsule with its cardioid polar pattern making the RM 510 the very first ribbon capsule perfect for use on stage with wireless microphone systems.

The capsule’s newly developed treble resonator delivers the rich high-frequency reproduction typical of beyerdynamic ribbon microphones, but also serves to protect against damage caused by plosive sounds. A cut in the 6.5 kHz range effectively suppresses sibilant sounds and supports the well-balanced and unobtrusive sound of the RM 510. The ultra-light, barely 3 micrometre thick aluminium ribbon delivers perfect frequency response and excellent transient behaviour.

The stainless steel mesh basket with multilayer metal gauze provides excellent protection against “plosives”. It is also easy to clean, while its design delivers significantly improved rear attenuation resulting in better feedback suppression. Compared to other ribbon microphones the RM 510’s ruggedized design is highly suitable for on-stage use.

The RM 510’s forerunner is the legendary M 500 ribbon microphone, famous during the 70s and 80s. This lineage is especially noticeable by the original, elegant design of the housing, stainless steel mesh basket with multilayer metal gauze, and the use of robust, high quality materials throughout. This combination of delicate engineering and precision build quality provides a new standard to ribbon microphones for ruggedness and reliability on stage.

As of Q1/2011, The RM 510 interchangeable microphone cartridge is available for handheld transmitters of beyerdynamic’s Opus 600 and Opus 9** wireless systems.

The world's first wireless ribbon microphone cartridge for live vocals.

The 3D-embossed, ultra-light aluminium ribbons deliver perfect frequency response and excellent transient behaviour.

In keeping with beyerdynamic’s manufacturing philosophy every ribbon element, barely 3 micrometres thick, is assembled by hand in Germany.

A sophisticated sound labyrinth on the rear of the diaphragm and the use of advanced acoustic fabric guarantee for the frequencyindependent cardioid polar pattern and the RM’s 510 well-balanced and unobtrusive sound.
