The rugged looking housing of this dynamic model is made of black plastic and has an integrated threaded hinge to mount on a microphone stand. In order to move the hinge you need a little power. This promises a solid positioning when using the microphone live on stage or in the rehearsal room. The capsule is protected by a metal grille. Weighing only 95 g the microphone is a lightweight with very compact dimensions allowing it to be easily placed anywhere.

The supercardioid polar pattern is fixed enabling a very good channel separation (i.e. no crosstalk) with a level difference of approx. -20 dB as you can hear from the test recording. Regarding this, the manufacturer kept their promise. Due to the strong directivity the sound clearly changes when you change the position of the microphone. For example you could change the angle to adapt the sound to your personal taste or the requirements, which is very convenient for me, as I am a determined proponent of the primary signal theory.

Overall the sound appears punchy and concrete, so that you can expect a good assertiveness of the recorded drums in the mix. For a dynamic microphone I feel that the reproduction of the quiet sounds is amazingly sharp in detail and contoured, for example the ringing of the snare is very clearly heard.

Rating: 4.5 points (out of 5)

Conclusion: Due to the small size of the microphone it is ideal for setups that leave little room. For little money you get a dynamic microphone which is ideal for the stage with a good resolution, excellent directivity and preset equalizers for drums and percussion instruments.

The sound is also trimmed for power, because the attack is well featured.

[...]

The toms then are reproduced with a great sound with a smart attack and a lot of opulence.

[...]

Conclusion: The new microphone drum sets from beyerdynamic are interesting for those who want a fair price for sound and processing quality coupled with an easy handling.

The microphones of the TG series are already inexpensive and in a bundle they are even more inexpensive.  With the tested Drum Set Pro S you save more than 160 Euro (RRP) compared to the unit price and receive a handy bag for transport free of charge. The fact that some of the microphones are manufactured by hand in Germany emphasises their quality.
